Privacy Policy

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and the username you choose. That's it for required info.

We also collect standard log data when you use the site: IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. We use cookies to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences (dark mode, notification settings, etc.).

How we use it

• To operate the Service (logging you in, sending deal alerts, etc.)
• To detect spam, vote manipulation, and abuse
• To send you deal alert notifications (if you set them up)
• To send occasional product updates (you can unsubscribe anytime)
• To generate aggregate, anonymized usage statistics

What we don't do

• We don't sell your personal information to anyone
• We don't share your email with third parties for marketing
• We don't track you across other websites
• We don't use your data for targeted advertising (our ads are contextual, not personalized)

Third-party services

We use a small number of third-party services to run SteepList: cloud hosting (Vercel), email delivery (Postmark), and error monitoring (Sentry). These services may process some of your data as part of providing their services to us. We don't use Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel.

Cookies

We use first-party cookies for authentication and preferences. We use one third-party cookie for our display ad provider. We don't use tracking cookies. If you block cookies, the site will still work but you won't be able to stay logged in.

Data retention

Account data is kept as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal info within 30 days. Your posted deals and comments remain but are disassociated from your identity (shown as "[deleted]"). Server logs are retained for 90 days.

Your rights

You can export your data, correct inaccuracies, or delete your account at any time from your profile settings. If you're in the EU or California, you have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA respectively. Email privacy@steeplist.com for data requests.

Changes

We'll post any material changes to this policy on the site and update the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we'll also email registered users.
