Community Guidelines

Last updated: January 8, 2025

SteepList works because people share real deals and help each other out. These guidelines exist to keep it that way. They're not complicated, but we do enforce them.

Posting Deals

  • Only post real deals. The item needs to be actually available at the price you say. Don't post something that sold out 3 days ago. Don't post a price that requires 14 stacking coupons that expired last week.
  • No affiliate links. Period. If we detect affiliate tracking parameters in your URL, the post gets removed and you get a warning. Second time is a ban.
  • No self-promotion. Don't post deals for your own store, your buddy's store, or your dropshipping side hustle. We can tell.
  • Include the actual price. "Great deal on headphones!" with no price is useless. Include the sale price and the regular price if you know it.
  • Check before you post. Search first. If someone already posted the same deal, upvote theirs instead of posting a duplicate.
  • YMMV is fine, but label it. If a deal is in-store only, regional, or otherwise your-mileage-may-vary, tag it as YMMV.

Comments

  • Be helpful. "This is cheaper at [other store]" is useful. "lol who buys this garbage" is not.
  • No personal attacks. Disagree with someone's opinion on a deal? Fine. Call them names? Not fine.
  • Update if you buy. If you buy something from a deal, come back and let people know if it worked out. This helps everyone.
  • Report expired deals. If you find a deal that's no longer available, hit the "Expired" button so others don't waste their time.

Voting

  • Vote on deal quality, not personal preference. A great deal on cat food is still a great deal even if you don't have a cat.
  • No vote manipulation. Don't create alt accounts to upvote your own deals or downvote competitors. We detect this and it's an instant ban.
  • Downvote bad deals, not deals you missed. A deal that expired isn't a bad deal. Use the "Expired" button instead of downvoting.

Enforcement

First violation: warning and post removal. Second violation: 7-day posting ban. Third violation: permanent ban. For serious stuff (spam bots, phishing links, harassment), we skip straight to permanent ban. Appeals go to mods@steeplist.com. We try to be fair but we're not going to argue about it for 12 emails.
